AISI 304 - X5CrNi18-10 - DIN 1.4301
304 is the most widely used grade of all the stainless steels.
It is preferred for its good corrosion and thermal resistance, sufficient mechanical properties in normal environments, strength at tempratures below 700°C, good formability, good forgeability and excellent weldability.
Machinability is average with the right tools. For detailed processes 303 grade must be preferred.
Heat resistance is up to 700°C, other heat resistant grades must be preferred for higher degrees.
304 grade is in austenitic family and it is available in all of the stainless steel forms and shapes. It is the optimal grade for standard applications. With its availability, and optimal performance in standard conditions, 304 grade has a well deserved fame in Austenitic family.
When you consider the aesthetical apperance, polishability, cold forming capability, good mechanical properties, good corrosion resistance and excellent weldability, 304 grade is a natural leader in Austenitic Family with its price / performance ratio.
